“I would rather die of passion, than of boredom.”
~ Vincent Van Gogh (or Emile Zola)
What a romantic quote, no?
Van Gogh is not only known for his spectacular paintings, but also for his grave passion that eventually lead to his suicide.
But is it possible for one to ‘die of passion’? If it was, I’m pretty sure my father would be dead by now – the man is passion incarnate. Not exactly like Van Gogh – my dad’s not an artist –
but passionate, nonetheless.
I inherited some of these passionate genes, but I think they must have fused with my mom’s ADHD genes** because I seem to have passionate bursts at random times that come and go quickly. One day I’ll have a random thought that I need to learn how to be a calligrapher within the next two hours to two weeks. Then, once I’ve downloaded every free cheat sheet, gotten some pens, and done a few pages, the ‘passion’ fades and I’m done.
This happens with anything and everything. Meaning I’m mediocre at a lot of random things and have tiny bits of knowledge about these things.
Now, that sounds cool, except my room is cluttered with the beginnings and middles of projects and passions that I never felt the need or drive to finish. The oddest part is that it doesn’t stem from laziness or malice. Usually, when I drop one hobby I pick up another one just as intensely – and the hobbies don’t get easier.
There are hobbies that have stuck – horseback riding, writing, mandolin. But comparing that to the innumerable hobbies I’ve just tried that’s not much.
While I’m not 100% sure why I do this, I do know how I try to conquer it – when I remember that I have this problem, that is.
Whenever I feel like I need to do The Thing, I take a step back. I’ll be real with you, this is a lot harder than it sounds. When a drive like this kicks in you may have to sit down with your brain and have a little talk.
Brain: *chanting* do the thing, do the thing, do the thing
Me: Nope, wait
Brain: no time, do it now
Me: ….sigh
After you finally convince yourself, put whatever the thing you’re wanting to do is on hold. Usually, this step comes after a lot of speed researching and Youtube video watching, but you need to give that a rest too. Just put it on a back burner – no, scratch that. Put that sucker in the microwave.
Like most meals that get left in the microwave overnight, when you come back to it it’s usually not nearly as appealing.
However, every once in a while, you’ll get that lasagna idea that’s just as great when you reheat it. That’s an idea you can run with because usually, it’s one that you won’t get bored with so quickly. For me, that’s been horseback riding, mandolin playing, and writing.
What are some of your lasagna ideas? Leave a comment and let me know.
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed! ^-^

Well, as you know, I love to crochet! You can attest to this because your poor family gets gifted with most of the hats and scarves I make! That’s what you get for moving to a place where it gets cold! 😉 I also enjoy reading, swimming and dabbling with paints.

I love the lasagna analogy. Spot on. If only my brain could think of those things haha.
I have to say though that writing is definitely my biggest lasagna idea! I can use my imagination for fun and vent all I want in writing and nobody has to know! xD
